About the Society
The Southwark Historical Society serves to collect, preserve and promote the history of Southwark, a historic district located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our mission is to educate, inform, and engage the public through collecting, preserving, and interpreting the past.
The core working group of the Southwark Historical Society includes members of the Queen Village Historic Preservation Committee as well as neighbors from other civic associations. Our goal is to build and expand upon the accomplishments of these organizations while expanding outreach efforts to the neighboring communities within the historical Southwark district.
Membership is free and events are open to anyone interested in the history of Southwark. If you are interested in joining the Southwark Historical Society, please contact us so that we can add you to our email list.
Articles written by architects, historians and members of the public are published on our website and Facebook page. We also plan to publish a free e-book once a year that contains all of the articles that have been published online plus additional multi-media features such as photo galleries, videos and interactive widgets. If you are interested in publishing an article with us, please contact us and we will discuss terms for publication.
